When Alex, a new Mama friend I met in my neighbourhood told me months ago about a possibility of shooting a wedding for her Dad, who is at his 60s and remarrying, I was pretty sure my heart skipped a beat to the thought of being part of such meaningful event. I have then exchanged emails with Alex’s Dad, Damir but it was only on the wedding day itself that I got to meet Damir and Kate.

I may have not known them personally but I got a glimpse of their lives through the wonderful stories shared by their closest family and friends during the wedding speeches. I particularly remember how Kate first described when she shared how lucky she is to finally have found Damir — after searching “high and low”. (by this time there was a loud echoing laughter of everyone listening). I also love how Kate put into words when she said, “He is an acquired taste. (referring to Damir) Like any great thing – wonderful music, oysters, red wine — it is an acquired taste and I’m so glad that I took the time to acquire that taste because I almost didn’t. (someone yelled in the background, “Damir, you’re magnificent!”) Yes, he is a magnificent man, a very true, a very loyal and a very kind man — and he irons his own shirts.” When it was Damir’s turned to do his speech, he described Kate, as “beautiful, smart, funny and lovable, she’s everything a man could want. Kate is certainly a great woman, she has an incredible zest for living and unshakeable strength of character — just being around her is inspirational. I hope that in time she can make me, not maybe great, but certainly a better man than I am.”

I felt my eyes stinging once again while taking photos when it was time for Damir & Kate to have their wedding dance to the song of “You take my breath away” by Eva Cassidy. And this whole wedding unfolded pretty special really, so relaxed, truly unpretentious and certainly inspirational to witness how everyone celebrated with much genuine happiness, many belly-laugh moments and beaming love.

Here are some highlights from Damir & Kate’s intimate wedding where I captured moments during their ceremony and reception.
